The 2020 race for political power is underway that has already been heated for the Democrats Presidential primaries, but which party will win the Senate majority in 2020?
Currently, the Republican Party holds a 53-47 majority in the Senate that has allowed President Trump to push through many of his Judicial nominees. Democrats are desperate to gain control of the Senate in 2020 in order to prevent the courts changing in a Conservative favor for generations to come. Let’s break down the 2020 Senate seats that are up for election and predict the outcome of which party wins the majority seats.
In 2020 there will be 34 out of the 100 Senate seats up for election (12 Democrats, 22 Republicans). This means going into 2020 Republicans will hold 31 Senate seats while Democrats will hold 35 Senate seats.
However, of the 22 Republican seats up for election 19 are likely to be safely reelected Republicans. That leaves 3 Republican seats that are toss ups. Of the 12 Democrat seats of for election 10 are likely to be reelected Democrats. That leaves 2 Democrat seats that are toss ups.
With the 5 seats that are toss ups are current count is at Republicans 50 Seats and Democrats 45 Seats. But there are 5 seats we still need to figure out who wins, and Democrats will need to win all 5 in order to have a Senate tie. Let us take a look at which seats we consider toss ups for 2020.
Doug Jones (D-Alabama)-
Prediction- Doug Jones will lose this seat to a Republican due to the fact he only won because of a Roy Moore underage sex scandal. Republicans control Alabama and will likely run a far better candidate than Roy Moore in 2020 to gain back the seat.
Republicans win the seat.
Gary Peters (D-Michigan)-
Prediction- Gary Peters is running in a swing state that voted for President Trump in 2016. If Trump wins Michigan again in 2020 it is likely Peters will be voted out by his Republican challenger.
Republicans win the seat.
Martha McSally (R-Arizona)-
Prediction- McSally will have a tough fight in a very purple Arizona, but she was appointed this seat and has gained trust in her state voters. McSally nearly won her Senate race in 2018, but lost due to some shady last second votes that were counted.
Republican McSally wins the seat.
Cory Gardner (R-Colorado)
Prediction- Gardner has an uphill battle in order to win his election in 2020 due to the state of Colorado recent turn to deep blue. It is hard to imagine Gardner being able to hold on to this seat unless Colorado has a low voter turn out in 2020.
Democrats win this seat.
Susan Collins (R-Main)-
Prediction- Susan Collins is a RINO Republican that is not well beloved in the Republican party, and she is a deep blue state of Maine that hates any Republican. It is hard to imagine Collins will stir up enough votes from her Republican voters in order to keep her seat.
Democrats win this Seat.
Final Senate Results of 2020
After breaking down the 2020 Senate race it looks like Republicans and Democrats will each lose 2 seats. This would make the final tally with a Republican Majority 53-47 in 2020.
